Phantom Abyss is played single-player, and the ‘ghosts’ represent previous player attempts and are not people currently playing the game. Phantom Abyss is not a Fall Guys-style game where everyone plays at the same time.

thrusts players into procedurally generated temples with the goal of obtaining relics. Naturally, said temples are filled with perilous traps. Bottomless chasms, spiked hallways of death, and giant spinning blades are just a few of the nasty surprises waiting to cut you into tiny pieces.

Currently, it doesn't synergize well with any non-whip movement blessings, as you have to either stand still or crouch-walk to initiate it, which severely limits its usefulness. Even if you have Double Jump, the boost only occurs on the first jump.

What really adds to this is how Phantom Abyss does its levels: Once someone wins a particular delve they get the treasure at the bottom and that's it—nobody else can ever play or win it again.

Despite levels being procedurally generated, each map has similar layouts and obstacles, with most of the changes being small, like adding poison gas or dangerous enemies. This repetition means that exploring the ancient tombs gets old pretty quickly.

An upgrade well that provides permanent upgrades can be found in the HUB and in the first floor of temples.

But one of Phantom Abyss' coolest features is its asynchronous multiplayer in the classic Abyss Mode. The ghosts of other, failed adventurers pop up in the level as Phantom Abyss you go, letting you see how other people died gruesomely on the way.

Phantom Abyss also taps into some roguelike elements with its blessing system, which offers you random power-ups for the run’s duration in exchange for collected treasure. Treasure is found in chests hidden throughout each temple, redeemable at statues between floors that offer one of two presented blessings, adding other strategic decisions to the action.

Players will quickly discover that there is much more than just deadly traps waiting for them deep within the temples as they try to recover sacred relics...

As adventurers venture further into a temple, offerings of collected treasures can be made at altars to gain a new blessing for the rest of the run. Collect as much treasure as you can to please the gods and gain a double jump, glide jump, extended slide, damage protection, and more!

Calm gives you a brief reprieve by banishing the guardian on a single floor, allowing you to focus solely on room hazards. I only recommend picking this up late in your run, especially if you plan to visit the Inferno.

Take on the all-new Tower multiplayer, explore the jungle level Treetop Tangle, or embrace the look of your favorite friendly mob. The faire is full of surprises – who will you bring to the celebration?
